Beautiful original and early Seth Thomas “pillar and scroll” wood works clock in nice condition. Circa 1830, an Eli Terry design, this was Seth Thomas first clock. Movement is clean, the strike side has a gear which has been repaired and needs attention. (see photo) The suspension spring has worn out and needs replaced. Original top and bottom glass with bubbles in the original front glass. Part of the original label is on the inside. The dial is in beautiful aged condition with no damage just age. The dial is wood. WONDERFUL SETH THOMAS SONS & COMPANY GILT FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK CIRCA 1872. Measures approximately 15 ½ high by 17 ½ wide by 5 ½ deep. Clock has been serviced and is running fine. It is running fast but can be adjusted by moving the pendulum balance either up or down. There are two keys for the large wind-ups in the clock face but needs a very tiny key for the wind-up in the top rim of the clock face. This clock is huge, I bought it thinking it was a normal size when in fact its nearly as tall as two normal bottles of wine! The casting is sublime, its cold painted and bronzed, the ladies expression is very peaceful and serene, the hair is what I love the most, how it becomes part of the clock and can be seen from all angles. The dial is hand painted and porcelain, this would have been a very expensive piece to had made in its day.
