SETH THOMAS CLOCK WITH THE ADAMANTINE FINISH WHICH WAS A LAMINATE OR PLASTIC THAT CAN TAKE A VERY HIGH SHINE. IT IS VERY DURABLE AND CLOCKS WITH THIS FINISH USUALLY LOOK AS GOOD AS THE DAY THEY WERE MADE ABOUT 100 YEARS AGO. IT HAS A GREAT LABEL ON THE BACK. IT WAS SERVICED AND AT LEAST ONE BUSHING PLACED. IT IS RUNNING AND STRIKING WELL. AS THE STORY GOES, ONLY SETH THOMAS KNEW THE FORMULA FOR THE ADAMANTINE FINISH. SO, HE INVENTED PLASTIC MANY YEARS PRIOR TO IT’S INTRODUCTION. I SEE A LOT OF NON SETH THOMAS CLOCKS ADVERTISED AS ADAMANTINE AND THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING AND NOT TRUE.

Vintage Seth Thomas Helmsman E537-001. Some surface tarnish, as to be expected with the age (I did not polish it). A few bends on the unscrew able face I guess it got dropped a few times over the years. Measures about 9 inches from outer wheel grip to outer wheel grip. Features a silent setting in case you do not want to hear the bells. Also a faster/slower setting, in case the clock is not keeping time. Runs and chimes fine. I have had is running for weeks.
