Antique Seth Thomas Sonora No. 5 Chiming Shelf or Mantel Clock, Adamantine finish with 90D movement. Excellent condition, keeps good time, chimes properly, but needs work. Case in fantastic original condition, with no cracks, splits etc. Very minor wear with age. The original convex crystal is in perfect condition with good hinges and latch. The dial is showing some wear and discoloration. Needs a few repairs/adjustments. The hourly strike mechanism is not working. The spring is broken or detached. The pendulum hanger is just slightly too long or adjusted too low. I decided not to try adjusting the length of the hanger because I was afraid of damaging the works. […]

Circa 1930’s Seth Thomas Clock Co, Thomaston CT, 8 day Westminster Sonora Chime Clock. The case has a nice refinish to the mahogany veneer and features inlaid marquetry in the front panel. There are two movements. The inner one is an 8 day time and hour strike movement which activates the second Westminster Chime movement to ring out that musical chime on the 15 minute marks. The first quarter hour chimes out four notes. The length of the song increases every 15 minutes. At the hour, it chimes the full song followed by the hammer counting out the hours on one of the rods. 5 Adamantine Mantel / Shelf / Cabinet Clock that needs repaired. This clock has two complete movements inside the case. The movement closest to the dial keeps the time and strike. The second movement runs the Westminster Chimes. The chime movement works but the other movement needs a mainspring repair as it will not stay wound. I don’t know if it’s just something loose, needs a clamp, or the extent of the repair but my expertise is not in fixing mainsprings. Probably from the late 1800s to early 1900s. 13 inches tall , 11 inches wide , and 7 inches depth. The woodgrain finish is very good and does not have any damage to the wood. It does come with the pendulum and key. I did get the clock to run only for a few minutes at most but eventually stops. It chimes every 15 minutes and on the hour. I dont have any history on the clock so I do recommend having it cleaned / serviced (no warranties). Please check out my other auctions for other fine timepieces. For sale is a Hennegen Bates Co/Seth Thomas Sonora Chimes 4 bell beehive clock circa 1910. The movement is an 8 day movement (wind it once a week). The movement is stamped with Made in America. The clock rings on four bells. It chimes on each quarter hour adding to the sweet melody. The walnut case has a small veneer loss at the apex in the back (seen in the photo) and a divet near the top that does not detract from the enjoyment of the clock.
