Antique Seth Thomas Ships Bell Clock. This clock is in amazing looking condition, especially the graphics on back of clocks wooden base. The clock is not in running condition. I can see one of the clocks wind up post is missing. The other one with post would wind. The large bell beneath clock looks to be in very good condition. The clock does not run reliable – it runs for about 15 seconds and then stops. The bell works and the second hand is missing. It has the physical wear you would expect for something of its age and use. Seamen stand four hour’watches’. A bell has traditionally been struck each half hour of the watch. The clock movement is currently wound up tight and not running. It ran for about a minute then stopped. The barometer doesn’t appear to be working as well. The mahogany base has some slight sun fading(see last pic). The crystal and dials have no scratches. The finish on the brass has some wear and discoloring(see pics 9 & 10). These clocks are highly sought after due to the external bell. The clocks strike the 8 bells system notating the various four hour watches. This particular bell is loud and clear! Clock comes with original key and the striking is working but the clock will run and then stop. Glass is in perfect shape no chips or scratches and the door closes firmly. There is a strike on and off button. Wear is consistent with age and use with scratches and service wear to the face of the clock and a few screws that have been replaced. There is also service wear to the paint on the numerals. The clock is mounted on its original wood plague and comes with its original brass key. The clock has been quietly hanging on the wall for years. When I first winded the clock, I had to nudge the second hand. The clock after a few hours second hand stops and needs another nudge. I wound it up and it starts right up, I have not checked it for accuracy. The glass is original, the cork seal is all good. Just an amazing piece for any collector!
