Antique Seth Thomas Sonora No. 5 Chiming Shelf or Mantel Clock, Adamantine finish with 90D movement. Excellent condition, keeps good time, chimes properly, but needs work. Case in fantastic original condition, with no cracks, splits etc. Very minor wear with age. The original convex crystal is in perfect condition with good hinges and latch. The dial is showing some wear and discoloration. Needs a few repairs/adjustments. The hourly strike mechanism is not working. The spring is broken or detached. This clock keeps good time – within 5 minutes per week variation. The pendulum bob is probably not original but the benefit is that it is adjustable. Winding key is included. The case is in good shape with no major scuffs or scratches – just a few very minor dings which are hardly noticeable due to the extensive embellishments that take up all the attention. I doubt that the dial is original as it is in such great shape. You’ll notice that the hands are held onto the stem with a tapered wood dowel (probably toothpick). Made by Seth Thomas out of Plymouth Conn. USA in the late 1800’s. 25″ tall, 14 7/8″ wide, and 4 1/2 deep. Looks to be walnut but please see pictures to be sure. Front glass panes are in good shape with no cracks. The top glass has that old wavy appearance to it. Good antique patina throughout. The outside cabinet has small scratches etc. The face has patina. This does have a couple of dings and some tiny white paint specks will pop off with a little effort and I posted close ups of these.
