Authentic 1939 Seth Thomas Mark I U. Navy deck clock, number N 1755, housed in its substantial original heavy watertight porthole-style case. A previous owner removed the original mechanical movement and converted the clock to a modern battery-operated quartz movement for convenient everyday use. The quartz mechanism uses one AA battery. The original mechanical movement and related parts shown in the photographs are included with the clock. Deck clock in good condition. My dad believed this was off the USS Flasher. Upon removing the movement, the serial number is off by 1 digit from the one written on the tag. The number could have been misread, and this is the clock from the crew’s quarters but there is no way to be sure. My Dad passed last year and no doubt new of the discrepancy on the inventory tag and believed this to be off that sub. Either way it’s a beautiful piece of history.

The attribution is due to in formation on page 781 of Tran Duy Ly’s, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Third Edition, Volume 2. The face has scratching around the winding stem.

Despite not having a key and being untested, this clock would make a unique and historically significant addition to any collection of maritime antiques. Small hand tip is broken off. Hands do move freely but untested other than that.

This clock is a rare find as it is still running well and includes the original key. The Seth Thomas brand, known for its quality timepieces, adds to the appeal of this unique and authentic piece.
