Seth Thomas Antique Steeple Shelf Mantle Clock Key Pendulum Mahogany Case 8 Day
Seth Thomas Antique Steeple Shelf / Mantle Clock Key Pendulum. The case is Mahogany wood that was restored some time ago. This is a eight day clock with a Bim Bam strike sound. It has the original pendulum and comes with a key. The bezel is an original but looks like it was repainted. The movement was serviced not to long ago and has the clock repair shop decal inside the case. There are a couple of tiny scuffs on the wood case. There is a ding on the front top peak. We have tested in our office for several days and it keeps good time. The strike arm will work sometimes and not at other times. We think it should work with a small adjustment? The size is 19 1/2 x 10 7/8 x 4 1/2. There is an antique mirror on the bottom door and also has some small scratch. Setup instructions for your wall or mantle clock. When your clock has been delivered there are a few things you need to do to make sure the clock runs properly. First thing you will need to do with all wood case clocks, is to let the clock get acclimated to your homes environment. If you’re hanging a wall clock make sure you have the proper wall hanger for either a drywall or plaster wall connection. It’s best if you can find the wall stud and mount your hanger bolt onto the stud. Never ever carry your clock with the pendulum attached, you always attach the pendulum after the clock has been installed on the wall. Install your pendulum and put a small level on your clock to level the case. If you are not familiar with leveling of antique wall clocks, the best advice I can give you is listen to the tick-tock of the clock. When the pendulum moves from side to side and the sound just flows evenly your clock will run best at that position. Most likely you will need to adjust the slow/fast adjustment knob on the bottom of the pendulum or the tiny slow / fast set flange at the top of the dial. The slightest turn either way can mean a few minutes of lost time or gain time. Most important is winding your clock. Whether your clock movement is a 24 hour, seven day, eight day, 10 day or 31 day movement, you never wind the clock until the key stops. When you feel the key starting to become harder to turn you should stop at that point and test the clock to see how many days it will run. After a few times of winding your movement you will figure out how many turns the clock key needs to be turned. Unless noted in description that the movement has been recently serviced you may need to have the movement cleaned and oiled. Most clocks that we sell are antiques and either close too or much older than 100 years. All antique clocks are precision instruments and need to be handled with care. All antique mantel clocks basically have the same description for the care of the clock. Depending on what part of the country you live in the amount of moisture in your home may not be enough or too much for the clock to run properly, this is something you will have to figure out.
