The finish is still beautiful and over 100 years old. It plays the famous Sonora 4 bell Westminster chimes on the quarter, half, 3/4 and full hour. This is one of the oldest domestic wall clocks, manufactured by the American company SETH THOMAS in the late 1860s to 1870s (early Meiji period in Japan). It is a large wall clock of the OFFICE No. THOMAS THOMASTON CT engraved below it. Originally based in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, the town was renamed “Thomaston” in 1865 in honor of the company’s founder. This clock was therefore manufactured sometime after 1865 and into the 1870s. The dial has a 12-inch approx. 30 cm diameter, giving it a bold and impressive presence.
