This is part of a personal collection of antique clocks that were acquired over the years. No markings that I found on this 1 but by all indication probably a Seth Thomas. Manufactured by Seth Thomas of Thomaston, Connecticut in March of 1893, this is a very nice condition and fully operating example of their classic Black Mantel Clock series, produced in the late 1800’s with their newly adopted cabinet finish process using new materials called Marbeline and Adamantine (soon to both be collectively known as Adamantine), and later destined to become a focal trait sought by many collectors. Rare antique 1850’S Seth Thomas 5 bells chime tall case grandfather clock. The 5 bells movement with marked chimes on the quarter hour and strikes on the hours. High 82″, width 19″, depth 11. The top door of cherry case is a small repaired (#18,19), otherwise is in good condition with age wear. See all photos for details. The cherry case, pendulum and weights are unoriginal parts. Antique Seth Thomas Beehive Wood Mantel Clock with Key & Pendulum WORKS. The glass face cover is missing. Some scratches on wooden case, damage/repair at the 12 o’clock position on the porcelain face (photo 14). Clock works, keeps time and chimes at the 12 & 6 o’clock positions. The mechanism is marked ST 48R (photo 11). Key & Pendulum included. Clock measures 11 1/2″ tall x 7 1/4″ x 4 1/2. Weighs 4 pounds 9 ounces (prior to packaging). Sound Opening on Bottom. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself. A nice looking patinaed brass lacquer look case on this clock. Would guess the clock dates to just before the WWII period. Has no markings on the back of the case. An uncommon feature with this clock is the sound venting on the bottom of the case.
