Unlike civil clock bells, the strikes of the bell do not accord to the number of the hour. Instead, there are eight bells, one for each half-hour of a four-hour watch. Bells would be struck every half-hour, and in a pattern of pairs for easier counting, with any odd bells at the end of the sequence. It is made of several different kinds of wood. It runs well, keeps time and strikes as designed.

Since it is a used item, it is in good condition overall, although there are some damages and stains. The case is solid mahogany with nice decorative studs. The original logo is still nicely visible on the dial. I bought this watch at an antique store over 25 years ago and enjoyed it hanging on the wall without moving it.
