Antique Seth Thomas Adamantine 8 Day Mantle Clock 1890’s Serviced & Running
Antique Seth Thomas Adamantine 8 Day Mantle Clock 1890’s Serviced & Running. Here is a nice condition “Adamantine” finish 8 day time and strike mantle clock made by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. In Thomaston, Connecticut during the year 1899. It has a very unusual black and white marble-look Adamantine top and trim against the solid black Adamantine body. All of the original feet and ornaments remain and are in great shape. Everything on this clock, for the most part, is and original, including most of the original label. The solid brass dial and bezel assembly is a nice one. These old solid brass dials are somewhat hard to find. They look beautiful and last forever. This clock features the original 1890’s Seth Thomas movement, which has been cleaned and is in good running condition, keeping time and striking properly, counting the hour, i. 1 gong at 1:00, 2 gongs at 2:00, etc. And announcing the half hour with a single gong. It is a quality movement that, if properly maintained, should last many lifetimes. The “Adamantine” finish, which is a patented laminate finish from the late 1800’s, is in good shape for its age. You may notice a little shrinkage at the corners and edges, and some cracking here and there, with minor dings, dents and scuffs, which is the nature of the Adamantine finish. It is a thin laminate over soft wood and so shrinks, cracks and dents fairly easily with just normal use over time. However, although this clock is obviously aged, being from the 1890’s, the Adamantine is in pretty remarkable condition. The measurements are 16 ¾” wide x 11″ high x 7 deep. This clock comes complete with a key and the original 1890’s pendulum and is ready to place up on the mantle and enjoy. This helps ensure that the new owner will have a satisfying experience. Be very sure to save all packaging material if there is a problem. All sales are final (with the exception noted below). It is nearly impossible to find one in “mint” condition. If a clock has damage from misuse, it will be noted. If a clock is running properly when it arrives, that is about the best we can do. All sales for this type of item are final.
