Their patent of adamantine vainer by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company in 1881 gave their clocks an appearance of the more expensive marble clocks that were being imported from Europe but made them more affordable. The vainer is an early form of plastic. It came in many different colors from the most popular black, white and also colored patterns wood grain, onyx and marble. Seth Thomas is very well known for these adamantine mantle clocks. This clock is an eight day clock with a strike on a gong on the hour and a strike on a bell at the half hour. This clock has an 89 movement which was their most popular movement and used being in 1900 to 1940. The 89 movements have been deemed one of the best movements due to their quality and ability to reduce wear which is a clocks enemy.
