Offered for sale is an antique Seth Thomas brass marine or bulkhead-style mechanical clock. Origin: Thomaston, Connecticut, United States. Movement type: One-day lever, time-and-strike movement. Escapement: Balance-wheel type rather than a pendulum. Case: Brass drum-style case with hinged glass bezel and mounting tabs. Dial: Silvered Roman-numeral dial with subsidiary seconds register. Approximate period: Late 19th to early 20th century. Another item from Country Artifacts, Great Northern Liquidation, Springfield, Vermont. 124 chime movement appears to have 5 notes, likely the Westminster tune, but this is not verified. The movement tick tocks and appears to want to run. It is assumed that it will need servicing and adjustment to work properly. We have not tried to maintain it in any way. The clock includes the hands (one detached), pendulum, and key. The glass in front is in good condition, as is the face and case. Description Here is a nice condition “Adamantine” finish 8 day time and strike shelf clock made by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. In Thomaston, Connecticut during the early 1900’s. This clock is in a red woodgrain style Adamantine finish which may have been designed to simulate rosewood or simply red marble. The brass bezel and dial assembly is in nice shape for its age. This Seth Thomas Chicago Shelf clock is in excellent condition. The clock’s exterior has been beautifully restored and looks excellent. The only issue is that when the door closes and is locked, there is a gap at the top of the clock (See HD pictures). We attempted multiple adjustments to fix this, but we were unsuccessful. The clock would have been made around the late 1800s. The movement has been properly cleaned and oiled and keeps very good time. The clock chimes on the hour.
