WWII Seth Thomas Merchant 14 day Ships Clock. I got it three weeks ago. It has run off and on for up to 2 days, and its not running now. It may just need a service and polish. There are 9 service inscriptions on the back of the case (the most Ive ever seen) starting from 1942, 43, 44, 48, 50 etc (see photos) so it could date back to the 30s. Comes with original key. This is a Seth Thomas 6 diameter Navy Marine deck clock in the original Bakelite case. Clock displays white Arabic numeral 12 hour markers inside the chapter ring plus separate seconds dial. The clock is signed below center arbor and centered below an “N” inside of a circle (Naval Observatory cartouche) with Observatory number 36014, 1942. Outside the chapter ring below the 6 is marked Made By Seth Thomas In US. Clocks steel hands appear to be in original condition and with original white painted finish. The clock was originally nickle-plated, but typical of one of these century-old clocks, the nickle had worn off considerably and with just a quick cleaning on a buffing wheel, the underlying solid brass case and bell polished up to a beautiful luster.
