This antique French mantle clock is a beautiful addition to any collection. The clock features an open escapement and is made of slate and marble. The clock mechanism is made by Seth Thomas. The clock is not currently running. I think it was wound too tight. I can’t determine why there is a spot on the porcelain face that is distorted as it doesn’t appear to be damaged and is quite solid. Anyways, the clock displays very well and is a beautiful example of an early timepiece.

Original pendulum is with it as well as a replacement winding key. Displays a fair paper dial. As always, the dust and grime are free. Case screws could use a tightening and little bits of touch-up and a thorough case disassembly and polishing / cleaning would easily […]

I bought it at an estate sale and I don’t know much about clocks but I’ll tell you what I do know. It does wind when I turn it (in other words, the key is the right size). When I push the pendulum, it works just a little and then slows down and stops. One time it actually ran for 10 minutes but then stopped. The pendulum looks great. On the clockwork lower right is the number “4½” which I’ve read is the pendulum length. On the clockwork is also “Made in USAmerica” and the Seth Thomas Logo. Now, on the bottom of the clock base is the word “SUCILE”. […]
