Seth Thomas 1st Generation External Bell Ships Clock, Great Lakes Steamship
Offered is a late 19th c. The clock was originally nickle-plated, but typical of one of these century-old clocks, the nickle had worn off considerably and with just a quick cleaning on a buffing wheel, the underlying solid brass case and bell polished up to a beautiful luster. Now, for those who bemoan the removing of “patina”, let me remind you that brass on ships was either kept polished or painted and never allowed to look “grungy”!
