This super nice clock is in very good strong running condition as shown with no breaks or cracks. It has the highly desirable Mayland Chime Rods. Their chime is beautiful, rich and lyrical! It chimes a partial chime on the quarter hour and chimes the full chime and the correct number of dongs on the hour. Glass face has good hinges and latches closed securely. Offered is a late 19th c. The clock was originally nickle-plated, but typical of one of these century-old clocks, the nickle had worn off considerably and with just a quick cleaning on a buffing wheel, the underlying solid brass case and bell polished up to a beautiful luster. Now, for those who bemoan the removing of “patina”, let me remind you that brass on ships was either kept polished or painted and never allowed to look “grungy”!
