RARE Antique ELI TERRY, Woodworks With SECOND HAND, Retirement Gift From DuPont Family. As told this clock was given as a retirement gift to a long time employee of the DuPont family. This eight day woodworks with second hand was made in the 1820s and seems to be completely original. This clock has been in a climactic controlled display case in working condition before weights were removed before for the transfer. Currently The weight cables seem very brittle so clock is untested. The back of wooden dial has signed dates of 1837, 1864, and 1883. The lower tablet reverse painting has a small flaking or the white color and hanging moss of a Southern house. Im not a clock person however a local Estate appraiser feels this is the most beautiful near perfect original clock he has ever seen. Up for sale is this Antique Seth Thomas Eli Terry 8 Day Wooden Works Shelf Clock W/ Second Bit. Bottom tablet is not original but it is signed by the artist L Davis. Crest looks to be a replacement, dial has had some restoration, I believe the minute hand is replaced. The case does show some veneer wear and loss. Measures about 41 x 17 3/4 x 5 3/4 deep. Here is a very original Seth Thomas, Plymouth Hollow 30 hour wood clock, invented by Eli Terry. This one has the desirable carved eagle splat and curly maple half columns. A great, intact label and possibly the first finish. The movement runs freely without the verge, but I have not run it. It needs a pair of weights which are easily found. The bob and crank are included. The lower glass has been professionally painted; I believe this is Mt Vernon. This is a large clock at 35″ high by 17 1/4″ wide. Other than the glass, this is a good original example of a very early Seth Thomas clock, probably shortly after the partnership with Terry was dissolved, as it has the Plymouth Hollow label. Beautiful original and early Seth Thomas “pillar and scroll” wood works clock in nice condition. Circa 1830, an Eli Terry design, this was Seth Thomas first clock. Movement is clean, the strike side has a gear which has been repaired and needs attention. (see photo) The suspension spring has worn out and needs replaced. Original top and bottom glass with bubbles in the original front glass. Part of the original label is on the inside. The dial is in beautiful aged condition with no damage just age. The dial is wood. The original weights and pendulum keep the clock original this is a piece of history that deserves a home. There is minimal damage to the case, see photos, for a 200 year old clock. The wooden clocks are in a resurgence because 3D printing makes the pieces needing replaced an easy task compared to brass.
