Antique Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Clock Original Surface Tom Moberg Reverence. Style: American Federal / Pillar & Scroll. Type: Mantle / Shelf Clock. Movement: 30-Hour Weight-Driven Wooden Strap Movement. Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Plymouth, Conn. Condition: Used (Case in near-mint original surface condition, runs and strikes). If you are looking for an authentic early Americana pillar and scroll clock for your mantle, you could easily spend hundreds of dollars online on a modern, battery-operated reproduction. Or, for a modest higher price, you can own the REAL thing. To be perfectly transparent: because this clock features a single replaced center finial and a professionally repainted lower glass tablet, it is of lesser value to high-end, purist antique collectors who demand 100% untouched factory originality. But not everyone is an elite purist-most people simply love the profound beauty, history, and soul of premium historic timepieces. This listing represents an incredible, rare opportunity to secure a visually flawless, investment-grade statement piece for a fraction of the cost of an untouched museum specimen. Don’t miss the chance to bring this timeless beauty home. Sparing no expense to ensure its world-class visual appeal, the lower door panel features a custom, hand-crafted reverse-painted oil and 23K gold leaf tablet titled “Reverence”. This glass masterpiece was specially executed by Tom Moberg of Owosso, Michigan-widely celebrated among NAWCC circles as the premier clock-glass restoration artist in America. Further cementing its historical pedigree, the clock was later documented and appraised by Mike Wisdom, owner of Wisdom’s Clock Shop in Westfork, AR. In Wisdom’s professional assessment, the sheer structural integrity, original surface, and mechanical completeness of this clock elevate it to “museum grade” quality. The Showpiece Aesthetic & Authenticity. What sets this specific clock apart is its incredible, commanding presence in a room. The clock retains its magnificent, original historic old surface wood finish, which gleams beautifully around the original sweeping swan-neck scrolls, apron, and delicate flanking side pillars. Because the original clear top glass has been preserved, you get a perfect, crystal-clear view of the original character-rich painted wood dial and original hands. Through the central “bullseye” window of Tom Moberg’s masterful “Reverence” panel, guests can watch the original brass pendulum rhythmically swinging back and forth over the original 1820s factory paper label inside. It is an instant conversation starter that brings antique warmth and sophistication to any space. Key Features & Integrity. The wooden movement is running and striking. The dial shows minor paint loss near the lower winding holes. The clock will be packaged with extreme care. A NOTE ON COLLECTIBILITY AND VALUE. This timepiece beautifully bridges three distinct markets. For the hyper-strict “purist” collector, the restoration work means it is not a 100% untouched factory artifact. However, for the “aesthetic” collector who appreciates premium horological restoration, this clock represents an elite acquisition, combining a museum-quality cabinet, original old surface, original mechanics, and a pristine factory label with a highly coveted, hand-painted tablet signed by America’s premier glass master. Finally, for ordinary people with refined tastes who simply love historic American beauty, it offers the ultimate opportunity-the chance to own a genuine, functional, ticking 190-year-old masterpiece for a very similar price to a modern, battery-operated replica.
