Seth Thomas “Sucile” Adamantine Mantel Clock. Circa 1904 Please see full description. NOTE: It was my great-grandfather’s. We have moved to a very small living space that does not afford us the luxury of using it. We would love for someone who appreciates clocks like this to get it, have it more thoroughly cleaned, and use it. Red Mahogany Adamantine finish. Celluloid yellow “onyx” columns and sides (one column on back left side is missing). Features a 1/4 hour bell and hourly gong strikes. Metal feet and column holders. The clock measures about 16″ wide x 11″ high x 7 deep. The bottom is stamped SUCILE but there is no date code visible. Most of the rear label is missing. Cleaning/service history (as written on the back of the case): 6/15/1916, 7/19, 4/4/25 and 3/34. The front cover opens, however, the key is missing. Case shows some wear, dust, and scuff marks. There is one column missing. The back cover is present and latches. It reveals the 4 1/2 89C movement which will need cleaning and lubricating. The hourly gong does sound. The quarter hour was not tested. The pendulum and bob are present. The pictures show details and condition. Rare Antique Seth Thomas 8-Day Chime Adamantine Pillared Sucile Mantel Clock Working. This is a really nice hard to find antique Seth Thomas 8-Day chime Adamantine pillared Sucile mantel clock. This is a very hard to find model with a patent date of Sept. It features a black onyx finish with scrollwork and beautiful Adamantine colors of orange and green. It has four full columns , two on each end. It measures 17 1/4″ wide including the feet, 6 1/4″ deep and 12 tall. It chimes at the top of the hour with the correct number of chimes and rings a bell at the bottom of the hour. The condition overall is very good. The face does show wear which in my opinion adds to the character of a clock well over 130 years old. The slow-fast adjustment on the dial does not work as the small brass gear on the movement came loose and will be included. This is not really a problem as the slow-fast adjustment can be done on the pendulum instead. You will not be disappointed in this fine antique clock. I bought it at an estate sale and I don’t know much about clocks but I’ll tell you what I do know. It does wind when I turn it (in other words, the key is the right size). When I push the pendulum, it works just a little and then slows down and stops. One time it actually ran for 10 minutes but then stopped. The pendulum looks great. On the clockwork lower right is the number “4½” which I’ve read is the pendulum length. On the clockwork is also “Made in USAmerica” and the Seth Thomas Logo. Now, on the bottom of the clock base is the word “SUCILE”. Also, there is a number “5091F” (not easy to see on the photo but very easy to read in person). It is my understanding that the “F” stands for the 6th month of the year (June) and that you read the numbers backward to get the date of manufacture (1905). The condition of the clock is excellent. The paper label on the backside is mostly worn off. You will find some 100 year old dust in the cracks but the only “flaw” I found (other than it not running) is that there is a small 1/4 tear in the brass round back door right where one pin hooks the door to the hinge – however it still opens and closes normally and the latch works. The legs are all solid. The “columns” are some kind of celluloid but give the look of marble and there are no cracks in them. The wood is beautiful and no scratches that I noticed. The front glass is good as is the face door but the actual face clock has some wear in it. The gong has a nice “cathedral gong” sound and when I hand turn it, it does gong 11 times at 11:00 etc. Plan on taking it to a clock repair shop unless you know a bit about clocks yourself. Obviously it must be packaged very carefully with lots of padding and I will do that knowing boxes get tossed around in transport. It will be well packaged.
