This is a nice vintage antique Seth Thomas USA metal case alarm mantel / shelf clock. I think it has been overwound because the keys will not turn. If I move the clock from side to side it will start to tick. In decent condition as the pics show with some cosmetic wear and some dings to the metal and it comes exactly as shown. It measures 7″ x 3″ at the base and is 9 tall.

This Seth Thomas Mantle Clock features a dark mahogany finish and is designed in the tambour or “napoleon hat” style. Clock is 16.25″ wide at base and 9″ tall. Working condition when wound up. (See videos) Just not sure if the number of “dongs” is correct. It is likely from the early 1900s to 1920s and may have an 8-day mechanical movement. Similar models often feature time-and-strike functionality, though they may require a winding key to operate. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. Condition as shown in photos. There is one knob foot missing from the bottom. Includes pendulum bob and key. Has personal inscription on the back door showing that it was a gift given in 1921.

Offered here is an antique Seth Thomas mantel (shelf) clock featuring a classic architectural case with an octagonal bezel and a decorative lower glass panel depicting a bird motif. The interior retains its original Seth Thomas label reading “Seth Thomas, Thomaston, Connecticut, Warranted Good, ” along with period instructions, adding to its authenticity and appeal. This is a key-wind mechanical movement example, accompanied by its pendulum, winding key, and suspension components as shown. The painted dial with Roman numerals has a nicely aged appearance, and the case shows honest wear consistent with age, giving it a strong early American character. This clock is being offered as a restoration or display piece. The case has looseness at the joints and visible separation at the base corners. The steel suspension spring/leader that the pendulum hangs from will need to be replaced. Due to these issues, the clock is not currently in running condition and has not been tested for timekeeping accuracy. The dial shows areas of paint loss and flaking. The lower glass with bird decoration shows wear and partial loss to the surrounding decoration. The wood case exhibits surface wear, finish loss, scratches, and age-related patina throughout. The back panel and interior show dust and age as expected. Despite the condition issues, this is a desirable Seth Thomas example with good bones, original components present, and strong potential for restoration or parts use. This Seth Thomas Chicago Shelf clock is in excellent condition. The clock’s exterior has been beautifully restored and looks excellent. The only issue is that when the door closes and is locked, there is a gap at the top of the clock (See HD pictures). We attempted multiple adjustments to fix this, but we were unsuccessful. The clock would have been made around the late 1800s. The movement has been properly cleaned and oiled and keeps very good time. The clock chimes on the hour. As you will notice in the video, the chimes do not sound nice. This is because back in this time period, most homes only had one clock. So the goal wasn’t to make a pretty sound, the goal was for this sound to be loud and heard throughout the whole house. So if you want a clock that makes a nice chiming sound, this is NOT the clock for you. The alarm mechanism does work, though I did not include that in the video. Setting the alarm on these antique clocks is a complicated process. Please inspect all the HD pictures closely.

Vintage Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel Clock – Item number 49395-4. Red Adamantine case and cleaned and buffed to a mirror finish. Solid brass bezel not overly polished to show its age. All matching original hardware – Original feet – Added surface protection to the feet. Clock case has not been altered in any way from the original. Case is ready to accept an original mechanical movement if you prefer (alignment will be necessary). Clock does have a manufacture month/date March (C) 18XX – See last photo. Clock been fitted with the most advanced quartz movement on the market with a strike similar to a cathedral gong. Gong – Strikes the hours and single strike on the half hour – This is the original mechanical movement sequence. Has 4 additional sequences. Westminster chimes 4/4 and strikes the hour. Ave Maria chimes 4/4 and strikes the hour. Westminster on the hour only chime & strike. Bim Bam strike on the hour only. Night shut-off from 11pm to 6am or, 24 hour strike, or Shut off for no chime at all. Hardware was cleaned but not overly buffed. Spade hands to match the original. Brass bezel with new paper dial and original glass. Front dial face has decorative winding arbors to simulate the look of a mechanical movement. Clock has been completely dis-assembled, cleaned of all tobacco and residue, buffed and polished, re-assembled. Operation has been tested for a minimum 30 days. While the case is in excellent condition, there are flaws to the adamantine veneer – It is not perfect after 130 years. Very elegant piece with rich sound. Smaller clock for a mantel or shelf area. Measures 10″ wide x 5 3/4″ deep x 9 1/2 high.
