Here is a most beautiful Seth Thomas Alto model from 1921 that has been fully restored inside and out and is in excellent working and cosmetic condition! The original Seth Thomas #89AD movement has been completely disassembled and all parts cleaned ultrasonically. All of the wheels and their pivots were polished on the Lathe and 5 new brass bushings were installed. The time side mainspring has been replaced and both mainsprings that power the clock were properly cleaned and greased. The movement then reassembled and tested in the test stand before being reinstalled in the case. The clock keeps very good time and strikes pleasantly once on the half hour and the full number of strikes on the hour on a coiled cathedral gong. The original Adamantine veneer cabinet has been highly polished and presents beautifully with no flaws or chips. Please see all of my high resolution photos. The dial presents as new and is in excellent condition and the brass bezel has been highly polished and opens and closes as it should. A great example of a classic Seth Thomas Adamantine clock. The clock needs to be wound weekly on both arbors with included 2 sided key (small end for fast/slow adjustment). This a fully and properly restored Seth Thomas “Whitby” model clock from 1913 that is in Beautiful like new condition and has been fully restored. The most beautiful original mahogany cabinet with gold inlayed marquetry has been thoroughly cleaned, polished and waxed to it’s original luster and presents overall as it did over a century ago and has virtually no flaws. Please see all of the high resolution photos. The original enameled porcelain dial is in like new condition and has no noticeable flaws and is the perfect window to this classic and elegant antique clock. The brass bezel with thick beveled glass has been thoroughly cleaned and polished and presents as new, the bezel door closes as it did when new. The original hour and minute hands have been reblued and complete this classic and beautiful face of the clock. The original Seth Thomas 48 R fine movement has been completely disassembled and all parts cleaned ultrasonically and hand polished. The wheel pivots polished and pinions cleaned and 8 bushings have been properly installed, the movement then properly reassembled adjusted and oiled. It has been keeping excellent time for several weeks. The clock chimes a pleasant single strike on the half hour and a full cathedral gong on the hour. It measures 12 inches tall and 8 inches wide by 6” deep. A most splendid functional time piece that could be proudly displayed and enjoyed in any room in your home for generations to come. This Seth Thomas Whitby model can be found in Tran Duy Ly’s book on Seth Thomas clocks (pictured) as it appeared in their 1913 catalog. This is an 8 day clock that needs to be wound on both sides weekly with the included 2 sided key, small end is for fast/slow adjustment through the front of dial. FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS ADAMANTINE CLOCK, DANA NO. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. 3 model is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 442, item 1442, and gives a date of manufacture of 1913. This date is also stenciled on the bottom of the clock, a picture is provided of this. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. I consider the condition of the clock to be extremely good, the finish has the usual flaws and the original instruction label is still attached to the back door. I ask you to please examine the 12 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 8.375 inches wide, 11 inches high and 5.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and the original winding key. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE. Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. The clock is somewhat rare, I cannot find the clock in any of my books. I believe that the model is Bison, based on examining the name written on the bottom of the clock under a black light. I will tell you that this is one of the few Adamantine clocks I have seen with four columns on each side of the dial. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. The finish is in exceptional condition and the metal trim pieces and the dial present well. What I do know is that Seth Thomas called the color Golden Bronze. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 60 years. I cannot find this clock in my Seth Thomas book but the date of manufacture is easy to determine. On the bottom of the clock is a date code of May of 1915. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a nickel-plated bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. The finish is in nice shape with the normal wear and tear that you would expect for an item that is over 100 years old. The clock has two celluloid columns on each side with a cherub figure in the center. I ask you to please examine the 15 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS BLACK ADAMANTINE MANTEL CLOCK. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock is somewhat rare, I cannot find the clock in any of my books. I can tell by certain markings on the movement that it was made between 1901 and. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. The finish is in exceptional condition as are the metal trim pieces and the dial. I ask you to please examine the 12 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 14.25 inches wide, 10.75 inches high and 6.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and a proper fitting winding key. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE. Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York developed and patented this early form of plastic in 1880, and Seth Thomas soon after acquired the rights to the material. Celluloid was the first thermoplastic and was made by combining nitrocellulose with camphor. It can take on many colors with the addition of dyes and other agents. Molding and shaping are easily accomplished, so it could imitate more expensive materials such as stone or ivory. Many people use the word incorrectly, only Seth Thomas had the right to use this material on their clock cases. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward. FULLY & PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS PRESSED AND CARVED WOOD MANTEL CLOCK, MODEL NO. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 44 movement, a robust time and strike movement that Seth Thomas used in both wall and mantel clocks before they developed the 89 movement. 820 is shown in Lys Seth Thomas book in two locations. It is shown on page 732 as item 2494 and again on page 742 as item 2534. As I said, this clock was one of a series of seven different carved case clocks that were produced at the end of the 19. The manufacture date of manufacture of October 1891 is confirmed with the date code shown on the back of the clock. This clock strikes the hour and the half-hour on a deep sounding coil gong that Seth Thomas called a Cathedral Bell. The finish and general condition of the clock is in very good condition for a clock that is almost 120 years old. I ask you to please examine the 11 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 15.5 inches wide, 10.5 inches high and 6.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and a quality replica winding key complete with the ST logo.
