Up for sale is a stunning Seth Thomas Adamantine mantle clock in the highly sought-after Burl Walnut marbled brown finish. This patented celluloid veneer replicates the rich grain of burl wood and has maintained its deep luster for over a century. Features classic architectural styling with ornate lion head side handles and decorative pillars. Movement: Original Seth Thomas 89C movement. Timekeeping: The clock is in running condition and keeps time well. Strike Function: 8-day time and strike mechanism. Note on Strike: When fully wound, the strike side runs continuously. Once the tension settles, it strikes the hour and half-hour correctly. This is a common adjustment issue often solved by a professional cleaning or a minor lever tweak. Key/Pendulum: Includes the original pendulum. No key is included, but it has been tested with a Size #5 key. Exterior & Structural Condition. Case: The Burl Walnut finish is in excellent antique condition with beautiful marbling. Hinge Repair Needed: The front brass bezel hinge is broken and requires repair (please see close-up photos). Currently, the bezel does not stay properly aligned/attached at the hinge point. Hardware: The brass-tone feet and lion handles show a lovely, authentic aged patina.

This clock is in decent cosmetic condition for its age. The clock was made around the 1920s. The clock keeps good time and chimes at the half hour and hour. The movement has been disassembled, cleaned, had several bushings installed, reassembled, and properly oiled. It runs for the full 8 days. There are 2 keys included with this clock. One for winding the clock, and then a second smaller one for the speed adjuster. Please inspect all the HD pictures closely. The clock is 20″ wide, 5 and a half inches deep, and 9″ tall.

NICE VINTAGE SETH THOMAS 4 PILLAR KEY WIND ADAMANTINE MANTLE CLOCK WITH A BLACK EBONIZED WOODEN CASE WITH A VENEER DEVELOPED BY CELLULOID MANUFACTURING CO – PATENTED 1880. DECORATIVE COLUMNS, BRASS ACCENTS WITH LION HEAD HANDLES. 8 DAY TIME AND STRIKE MOVEMENTS. IT IS MARKED “89C” ON THE CLOCK MECHANISM ON THE BACK AS PICTURED, AS WELL AS MADE IN U. NO KEY FOR THIS CLOCK, BUT IT COMES WITH THE PENDULUM. CLOCK RUNS FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN STOPS. THE HANDS MOVE WHEN IT’S RUNNING. DEFINATELY NEEDS A GOOD CLEANING AND SERVICING AS I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT HAS SAT. IT IS NOT “OVERWOUND” AS ALOT OF THEM ARE. IT “DONGS” ON THE HOUR AND IS ACCURATE FOR THE HOUR AND DONG. NO GLASS ON THE FRONT. THE INSIDE OF THE CLOCK DOES HAVE A BIT OF A “MUSTY” SMELL. THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF WATER DAMAGE, CASE OF THE CLOCK IS LOVELY, PROBABLY IN A BASEMENT OR MAYBE AN OLD BARN OR GARAGE FOR A LONG TIME. IT CLEANED UP NICE, POLISHED THE CASE A BIT. IT COULD USE SOME MORE CLEANING. CLOCK OVERALL I THINK IS NICE, IT HAS A NICE “TIGER” DESIGN ON THE TOP AS PICTURED. CLOCK SIZE IS 16 INCHES ACROSS THE FRONT FOOT TO FOOT, 6 3/4 INCHES WIDE BACK FOOT TO FRONT FOOT AND IS 10 3/4 INCHES TALL. PLEASE VIEW ALL OF THE PHOTO’S AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. SETH THOMAS 89AD CLOCK MOVEMENT, REBUILT/SERVICED WITH NEW SUSPENSION ROD AND NEW LEVER SPRING WIRE. THIS MOVEMENT HAS BEEN DISASSEMBLED, ULTRASONICALLY CLEANED AND ALL PARTS POLISHED, DAMAGED OR WORN PARTS ARE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. BUSHINGS ARE REPLACED AS. MAIN SPRINGS WERE UNWOUND. THE MOVEMENT WAS THEN REASSEMBLED, OILED AND SET IN BEAT. THE TIME AND STRIKE FUNCTION AS SHOULD THE CLOCK GONGS THE HOUR AND THE 1/2 HOUR. I SET MY CLOCKS UP ON A TEST STAND FOR 8 DAYS TO ENSURE THE TIME AND STRIKE FUNCTION PROPERLY. THIS CLOCK IS READY FOR A CASE, PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS LEVEL LT AND RT AND FORWARD AND AFT ON MY TEST STAND YOUR CASE SHOULD BE CLOSE THE SAME. THIS MOVEMENT MAY NEED SOME ADJUSTMENT AFTER IT REACHES ITS FINAL DESTINATION. PLEASE REVIEW ALL PICTURES AND CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
