Seth Thomas Time Only Movement, their movement number 97E, which as near as I can learn was used only in Office #4 and #5 Clocks circa 1907 (a sketch of the clock is included). I have completely restored this movement to excellent working condition with complete cleaning and polishing, the installation of 12 bushings to repair worn pivot holes, installation of a new mainspring and a new pendulum suspension rod/spring. I have run this movement using a brass pendulum bob typical of the era, having a diameter of 2 3/16 inches, and it is included with the movement. The winding arbor is located to the left and below the hand shaft, 1 3/8 inches left and 3/4 inch below, the only ST movement with this arrangement as far as I can learn. The hand shaft extends out from the top plate by 1 inch. The overall depth of the movement from the mounting surface to the end of the hand shaft is 2 13/16 inches. The pendulum suspension spring is 6 inches long and the distance from the hand shaft to the bottom of the attached pendulum bob is 9 inches. The plates of the movement are approximately 2 3/8 by 4 1/8 inches in size. Please ask me any questions you may have about this movement. I always adjust movements to run in beat when they are level, however I have learned that not all movements are installed in their cases such that it is level when the case level. This clock belonged to my husband’s grandmother and has remained in the family ever since. The clock features a Seth Thomas mechanical 8-day time-and-strike movement, believed to be from the No. It is key wound and includes its pendulum and a replacement winding key. Authentic 1939 Seth Thomas Mark I U. Navy deck clock, number N 1755, housed in its substantial original heavy watertight porthole-style case. A previous owner removed the original mechanical movement and converted the clock to a modern battery-operated quartz movement for convenient everyday use. The quartz mechanism uses one AA battery. The original mechanical movement and related parts shown in the photographs are included with the clock. Their completeness, operating condition, and suitability for restoration are unknown, so they are included as-is. The original black dial is marked Mark I – Deck Clock – U. Navy, ” dated 1939, and signed “Made by Seth Thomas in U. Because of the quartz conversion, the clock is no longer mechanically original, and the original subsidiary seconds display does not operate in its original manner. The clock retains its exceptionally heavy metal shipboard case with hinged front bezel, glass, mounting flange, rear housing, and aged gasket material. The case was designed for secure bulkhead mounting and has considerable weight. Vintage condition with scratches, scuffs, spotting, discoloration, finish wear, paint or residue, gasket deterioration, dust, and other signs of age, previous installation, and modification. Please examine all photographs carefully for the dial, hands, case, quartz conversion, included original parts, and overall condition.

This is an antique Ansonia #5 clock open escapement movement, with ruby jeweled pallets, for a slate or marble clock with pendulum, hands, and key. This movement is not made or intended for a porcelain, cast iron, or wooden clock. This movement includes the hands, pendulum, and key. It has been timed correctly to match the pendulum. Dial is complete with clean glass, has no chips, original w/ beveled edge. This dial and movement come from the same clock and are a matching pair. Pendulum bob is original. The 2 ruby pallets are original. This is a #5 movement. This number is stamped into the brass on the rear of the movement. The needed distance from the center of the dial to top of the sound board is 5 1/2 This is to accommodate the length of the pendulum. The movement fits into a hole on the front of the clock that is 4 1/4″ to 4 1/2″ in diameter and this marble faceplate of the clock is 1/2 thick. This movement has been disassembled, repaired, and ultrasonically cleaned. New main springs installed. Movement repaired with new bushings. This also has a new suspension spring. Dial has been cleaned. Comes with the 3 screws for mounting the dial and movement to the clock. The last photo shows an Ansonia marble faceplate and how it should look. All of my restored mantel clock movements are completely disassembled, cleaned, repaired, timed and checked for 2 weeks minimum. They also come with the pendulum, key, and hands. The following measurements were taken “Center to Center”. Distance between 2 winding holes is 2 3/4. Distance between winding hole and center is 1 3/4. Distance between center and fast/slow adjustment is 2 1/8. Clearance needed from hand shaft to bottom of pendulum is approx. If you are replacing a movement, note the position of the hammer that strikes your gong. My movements also come with instructions on how to set the beat once you install it in your clock. Plus, I give other info on troubleshooting. You also get my contact info in case you have any questions, problems, or concerns. I’ll be happy to work with you if you have any problems. If you have a complete movement and wish to have it rebuilt, I can do this. Please send me a photo of your movement. This patented celluloid veneer replicates the rich grain of burl wood and has maintained its deep luster for over a century. Features classic architectural styling with ornate lion head side handles and decorative pillars. Movement: Original Seth Thomas 89C movement. Timekeeping: The clock is in running condition and keeps time well. Strike Function: 8-day time and strike mechanism. Note on Strike: When fully wound, the strike side runs continuously. Once the tension settles, it strikes the hour and half-hour correctly. This is a common adjustment issue often solved by a professional cleaning or a minor lever tweak. Key/Pendulum: Includes the original pendulum. No key is included, but it has been tested with a Size #5 key. Exterior & Structural Condition. Case: The Burl Walnut finish is in excellent antique condition with beautiful marbling. Hinge Repair Needed: The front brass bezel hinge is broken and requires repair (please see close-up photos). Currently, the bezel does not stay properly aligned/attached at the hinge point. Hardware: The brass-tone feet and lion handles show a lovely, authentic aged patina.
