Authentic 1939 Seth Thomas Mark I U. Navy deck clock, number N 1755, housed in its substantial original heavy watertight porthole-style case. A previous owner removed the original mechanical movement and converted the clock to a modern battery-operated quartz movement for convenient everyday use. The quartz mechanism uses one AA battery. The original mechanical movement and related parts shown in the photographs are included with the clock. Their completeness, operating condition, and suitability for restoration are unknown, so they are included as-is. The original black dial is marked Mark I – Deck Clock – U. Navy, ” dated 1939, and signed “Made by Seth Thomas in U. Because of the quartz conversion, the clock is no longer mechanically original, and the original subsidiary seconds display does not operate in its original manner. The clock retains its exceptionally heavy metal shipboard case with hinged front bezel, glass, mounting flange, rear housing, and aged gasket material. The case was designed for secure bulkhead mounting and has considerable weight. Vintage condition with scratches, scuffs, spotting, discoloration, finish wear, paint or residue, gasket deterioration, dust, and other signs of age, previous installation, and modification. Please examine all photographs carefully for the dial, hands, case, quartz conversion, included original parts, and overall condition.

Deck clock in good condition. My dad believed this was off the USS Flasher. Upon removing the movement, the serial number is off by 1 digit from the one written on the tag. The number could have been misread, and this is the clock from the crew’s quarters but there is no way to be sure. My Dad passed last year and no doubt new of the discrepancy on the inventory tag and believed this to be off that sub. Either way it’s a beautiful piece of history.
