Description Here is a nice condition “Adamantine” finish 8 day time and strike shelf clock made by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. In Thomaston, Connecticut during the early 1900’s. This clock is in a red woodgrain style Adamantine finish which may have been designed to simulate rosewood or simply red marble. The brass bezel and dial assembly is in nice shape for its age. The celluloid dial is worn and stained giving it a genuinely aged appearance. It is a quality movement that, if properly maintained, should last many lifetimes. The “Adamantine” finish, which is a patented laminate finish from the late 1800’s, is in good shape for its age. Still, you may notice a little shrinkage at the corners and edges as well as a few minor dings, scuffs or touch-ups, which is the nature of the Adamantine finish, but all in all the condition of this cabinet is very nice. It is complete with a key and the original “boy on a fence” pendulum and is ready to place up on the. The measurements are 8 3/8″ wide x 11″ high x 5 1/2 deep. The Sonora chime line of Seth Thomas clocks are some of the most complex and beautiful sounding clocks the company ever produced. The time keeping mechanism has a few lifter arms that tell the chiming mechanism when to activate the quarter chimes and the hour strike. When working properly, they sound incredible. Offered here is a Seth Thomas Sonora chime mantle clock. I did a lot of research, and the closest I could narrow down the manufacturing date is 1914 – 1921. As I said, I know nothing about clocks, but similar images elsewhere on the web say that S. Eth Thomas clocks with this particular inlaid design in a beehive case are often referred to as Model 64 or 264. Antiqueclockspriceguide says a clock identical to the one offered here (right down to the chime movement model and rods) is Model 64-A. I don’t know the correct model number – just providing you with the info I found. When working, this clock plays a chime melody on 4 steel rods. Late in their Sonora production, Seth Thomas changed over from bells to rods to compete with less expensive imports. This clock still has the sturdy separate chime movement Model No. 119 manufactured by Mayland. This clock has winding at 3 o’clock. When I found this clock, I opened the back and discovered a bubble wrapped bag with a bunch of bits and pieces that the former owner clearly wanted to keep with the clock. I’ve identified some of those pieces as the pendulum and the key. Sections of broken spring from the time keeping mechanism. And while all 4 chime rods are present, two have been detached from the block. I don’t know if there is anything else wrong with the innards other than that. As for the case, it is mahogany wood with satinwood inlay. The finish has extensive alligatoring, but there are only a few very shallow surface scratches. Measures about 9 from side to side. If you find your joy in rescuing and restoring antique clocks, I hope you’ve just found your next Labor of Love in this piece. But please be aware that with this clock’s issues, it may not be reparable because spare parts are very hard to come by, and you might only be able to use it for its parts. This is a weighty piece of history! That way, you can select the carrier that is cheapest or fastest for you, depending on your priorities. Please examine the photos and description carefully, and ask questions if you are unsure.

It appears is has sat for a very long time causing the spring to get stuck and will need to be serviced. We believe it has been overwound. It comes with a brass key. SETH THOMAS PEMBROKE – 1921. One that I have ever seen on the public market. It has a nice chime on its Cathedral bell gong counting the hours and striking once on the half-hours. Just a beautiful tone that is pleasing to the ear. A simple yet beautiful design of the case allows this clock to go with any home décor. This clock comes with nice step up design at the base that runs along the front and the sides. A scroll like design that runs from the base corners and along the front edge to the 9 and 3 giving this clock a nice balance that is appealing to the eye. The Mahogany case has no man made character marks in it but the previous owner stripped it and had no choice but to shellac it myself. It turned out pretty nice as you can see in the pictures. The original silvered dial is in excellent condition with a nice 4 ½. Inch minute circle silvered and attached. The black Arabic numbers and the signature Seth Thomas diamond shaped hour and minute hands give this clock a classy look and the numbers can be read from a distance. The flat glass has no scratches or chips in it. Both the front and the back doors open and close properly as they should. Original bob with the 2-sided key comes with the clock. This clock features a half-hour strike rebuilt 15-day fine round movement No. 51 that strikes once on the half-hour and actual number of strikes on the top of each hour. This can be seen and heard on the video player that is provided on this listing. This clock will give years of enjoyment to you and your family and many years of enjoyment to pass on for your generations to come. Every aspect of this clock is fully functional. Disassemble the entire clock and movement myself completely. Install Seth Thomas parts ONLY on the movement as needed. All worn pivot holes with Bergeon bronze bushings as needed. Clean the entire movement and mainsprings ultrasonically. Clean the original dial being careful not to alter its original condition. This dial is original and has not been altered. Clean the bezel, parts and gong by hand. Clean the inside of the clock as well as the outside by hand with mild cleaners and apply a coat of wax by hand. Reassemble the clock, oil and lube in the proper places. Adjust chime and strike hammer sequence properly to assure smooth and even strikes at each hour and half-hour. Electronically regulate the beat and adjust the speed while the clock is level to ensure accuracy for many generations. Inspect and adjust every minor detail of the clock assuring full function and peak performance for many years to come. Smoke free, pet free home.
