Vintage Seth Thomas Helmsman E537-001. Some surface tarnish, as to be expected with the age (I did not polish it). A few bends on the unscrew able face I guess it got dropped a few times over the years. Measures about 9 inches from outer wheel grip to outer wheel grip. Features a silent setting in case you do not want to hear the bells. Also a faster/slower setting, in case the clock is not keeping time. Runs and chimes fine. I have had is running for weeks. This clock is in very good condition for its age. Please inspect the HD pictures included. The clock keeps good time. When fully wound, it runs for the full eight days. It chimes on the half hour and hour (if you don’t want the clock to chime, only wind the right side hole/arbor, near 4 o’clock hour). However, the chimes are very muffled and weak sounding (see attached video). I tried making some adjustments to the chime arm, but nothing seemed to produce the proper sound. So if you’re looking for a clock that makes a loud chime, you’ll either need to know how to make adjustments to the chime bar, or you’ll have to look for a different clock. The dimensions are 16″ long, 11″ tall, 6 1/2 deep. The movement has been properly oiled recently. If you have no experience with using mechanical clocks, I would kindly prefer that you refrain from purchasing this clock. Mechanical clocks are complex timepieces that are not plug n’ play devices.

This clock keeps good time – within 5 minutes per week variation. The pendulum bob is probably not original but the benefit is that it is adjustable. Winding key is included. The case is in good shape with no major scuffs or scratches – just a few very minor dings which are hardly noticeable due to the extensive embellishments that take up all the attention. I doubt that the dial is original as it is in such great shape. You’ll notice that the hands are held onto the stem with a tapered wood dowel (probably toothpick). Lastly, the half hour strike is about 4 minutes past the half hour. The top of the hour strikes very close to the top of the hour (I believe within a minute). Note that the clock is working fine now but it is possible that at any time the spring(s) can break and/or malfunction. This has happened to me in the past on multiple occasions – it is part of the territory for these type of clocks. Eventually, you will need to service the clock over time. Right now, it works well.
