Provenance Sheet: Seth Thomas Brass Maritime Clock. Seth Thomas Clock Company, Thomaston, Connecticut, USA. Solid Brass Case with Perforated Sound Cover. Unpolished, original patina preserved. (July 1939) stamped inside case. Mechanical, 8-day, dual mainspring (time + strike). Bulkhead or wall-mounted, typical of naval installations. Manufactured in July 1939, this clock predates the U. Entry into WWII and reflects Seth Thomas’s early naval production standards. This feature is consistent with pre-war naval clocks designed for both function and discretion. Original brass, unpolished with natural patina. Perforated brass side panel intact. Original winding key included. Functional; manually triggers chime, resets automatically. Preserving patina maintains historical integrity and collector value. Use dry microfiber cloth; avoid liquid cleaners or abrasives. Service movement every 5-7 years by qualified horologist. Advance minute hand slowly, allowing chime at each half hour. Keep in low-humidity environment; avoid direct sunlight or salt air exposure. Compare with Seth Thomas Mark I Deck Clock U. Scarce-pre-war brass-cased strike clocks with original components. Used for testing or manual bell activation in shipboard settings.

Inherited from my Father in 1996. This clock had been in my family for as long as I can remember. My father collected clocks and also could fix most any clock. Unfortunately I did not inherit this talent. If you know about these Fashion Clocks, you know the calendar mechanism is very, very touchy. This one was reworked about 5 years ago by a local clockmaker. The Calendar worked until I moved the clock to a different room where it never worked again. Someone with the know-how should be able to get it going again. The works are by Seth Thomas. It counts each hour with a bell sound and each half hour with a single bell. The Walnut Cabinet is is good condition considering its age. Comes with pendulum and key and 3 finials not original to this clock. Thank you for looking.
