Inside this clock a note with this info was tucked away. The note will be included. It read the following. Paul, I thought you might like to work on this clock. The clock was given to Carl where he was in the Cabert house. It was the last clock left there. If you have patience you can get it running with the correct date & month. The only time it needs to be changed is leap year. We had it cleaned and worked on when we first received it. It can always go in the trash. The original key is also included. The key works to open and close the latch that opens the door to the clock and it does wind the clock up. I don’t know much about clocks, this clock does appear to be in close to if not working condition. I put the weight in after winding both wind knobs on the top clock face and rocked the weight back in forth. The clock whirred up for a few minutes and the bell rang several times. I can attach a video that I took from this. Overall this clock appears to be in excellent shape. The original inner door label is great, the screws appear to be set in well, the innards are extremely clean. There are some minor scuffs on the outside wood surface, but they are extremely minor. The clock base is about 13.5″ wide by 5″ the clock itself is about 26.5 tall.

Dial shows paint loss and continuing flaking. Hands may be replaced. The outer bezel needs to be reinforced in a couple of spots photo 24 you can see the deteriorated tie between 2 sections. I had to replace 2 movement screws that weren’t gripping, I replaced one of the screws that holds the bezel to the back of the case and at least one more needs replacing. Shows other general wear and use. Please view all 24 photos for measurements and condition.

This is an antique Ansonia #5 clock open escapement movement, with ruby jeweled pallets, for a slate or marble clock with pendulum, hands, and key. This movement is not made or intended for a porcelain, cast iron, or wooden clock. This movement includes the hands, pendulum, and key. It has been timed correctly to match the pendulum. Dial is complete with clean glass, has no chips, original w/ beveled edge. This dial and movement come from the same clock and are a matching pair. Pendulum bob is original. The 2 ruby pallets are original. This is a #5 movement. This number is stamped into the brass on the rear of the movement. The needed distance from the center of the dial to top of the sound board is 5 1/2 This is to accommodate the length of the pendulum. The movement fits into a hole on the front of the clock that is 4 1/4″ to 4 1/2″ in diameter and this marble faceplate of the clock is 1/2 thick. This movement has been disassembled, repaired, and ultrasonically cleaned. New main springs installed. Movement repaired with new bushings. This also has a new suspension spring. Dial has been cleaned. Comes with the 3 screws for mounting the dial and movement to the clock. The last photo shows an Ansonia marble faceplate and how it should look. All of my restored mantel clock movements are completely disassembled, cleaned, repaired, timed and checked for 2 weeks minimum. They also come with the pendulum, key, and hands. The following measurements were taken “Center to Center”. Distance between 2 winding holes is 2 3/4. Distance between winding hole and center is 1 3/4. Distance between center and fast/slow adjustment is 2 1/8. Clearance needed from hand shaft to bottom of pendulum is approx. If you are replacing a movement, note the position of the hammer that strikes your gong. My movements also come with instructions on how to set the beat once you install it in your clock. Plus, I give other info on troubleshooting. You also get my contact info in case you have any questions, problems, or concerns. I’ll be happy to work with you if you have any problems. If you have a complete movement and wish to have it rebuilt, I can do this. Please send me a photo of your movement. Here is a pretty clean Seth Thomas calendar clock, the suspension rod is off as you can see in one of the pictures, and I think where it attaches at the top needs replaced on the rod itself that little flimsy piece of metal! The case and everything else is very nice, some loss on one of the moldings on the top on the side as shown in the pictures. So at the moment because of the spring I have not tested the clock.

Please review all photos carefully for condition. Seth Thomas was one of America’s most important historic clockmakers, with roots dating to the early 19th century. Marine-style clocks such as this were designed around highly legible dials and robust mechanical construction. What makes this example particularly desirable is the combination of the large brass porthole-style case and separate external bell, a configuration considerably more visually striking than ordinary Seth Thomas mantel and wall clocks.

This door has the original, very nice clean finish. More importantly it has the original glass with original wood glass holding surrounds – check photos. If you are looking for a fine replacement for your damaged door – this is it. Last photo shows an age crack on the top of the door – will not show when clock is hanging. Back side has some flaws as shown in photos. Size is 28 1/2″ tall, widest on door top is 15 1/2″, widest on door bottom is 11 1/2.
