Antique Seth Thomas 8 Day Inlay Beehive Style Clock Serviced & Running. This nice looking clock was made by the Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Conn. This model features an earlier signed Seth Thomas # 89 solid plate 8 day movement that has been serviced and is in good running and gonging order. It counts out each hour, i. 1 gong at 1:00, 2 gongs at 2:00, etc. On a high quality flat coil gong that has a great resonating sound, and announces each half hour with a single toll. The case is classic in style and craftsmanship. It measures 13″ tall x 8 3/4″ wide x 5 deep and is still in the original finish and has aged beautifully and is in great condition. Notice the classic real inlay under the dial and around the edges and sides. The original painted 4 3/4 dial and solid brass bezel assembly is also in great condition. This clock comes complete with the key and pendulum. This helps ensure that the new owner will have a satisfying experience. Be very sure to save all packaging material if there is a problem. All sales are final, so please be sure that you will be happy by reviewing the pictures and descriptions that we provide. We honestly want you to be happy. It is nearly impossible to find one in “mint” condition. If a clock has damage from misuse, it will be noted. Seth Thomas Mantle Clock 89 AL Beehive – Works. Clock measures about 9.75″ tall and 8.25″ wide by 5 deep at the base. The clock does run and chimes but will need to be serviced. The chimes are not in sync with the time. One of the hands is bent and the case is in nice condition and does include a key to wind the clock. The key is probably not the original key. It does have age related wear but is overall in nice shape. Please see pictures for all details.

This clock is in nice cosmetic condition for its age. The exact year of manufacture is unknown, but based on the movement and the clock design, it would have been from the very early 1900s. The clock has a Seth Thomas 120 series movement, which was one of their best movements. The movement has been disassembled, had several bushings installed, washed, reassembled, and runs for the full 8 days and keeps VERY good time. The clock chimes at the half hour and hour. Please inspect all the HD pictures closely. The clock is 8 and a quarter inches wide, just over 5″ deep, and 10″ tall. If you have no experience with using mechanical clocks, I would kindly prefer that you refrain from purchasing this clock. Mechanical clocks are complex timepieces that are not plug n’ play devices.

Notice the string inlay all around the edges and the beautiful inlay decorations above and below the dial. There are a couple minor scratches on top. The original porcelain enamel dial and solid brass bezel with beveled edge glass assembly is in good condition. There is a little roughage around the fast/slow arbor and a small flake at the edge near the 8. The case is a little larger than normal measuring 15 high x 9½ wide x 6½ deep. This was actually the practice of the Seth Thomas Clock Co. We will include easy to re-install instructions, which basically requires putting the gong stand back in its hole and fastening the nut from underneath. This clock comes complete with the pendulum and a key that fits. This helps ensure that the new owner will have a satisfying experience. The Sonora chime line of Seth Thomas clocks are some of the most complex and beautiful sounding clocks the company ever produced. The time keeping mechanism has a few lifter arms that tell the chiming mechanism when to activate the quarter chimes and the hour strike. When working properly, they sound incredible. Offered here is a Seth Thomas Sonora chime mantle clock. I did a lot of research, and the closest I could narrow down the manufacturing date is 1914 – 1921. As I said, I know nothing about clocks, but similar images elsewhere on the web say that S. Eth Thomas clocks with this particular inlaid design in a beehive case are often referred to as Model 64 or 264. Antiqueclockspriceguide says a clock identical to the one offered here (right down to the chime movement model and rods) is Model 64-A. I don’t know the correct model number – just providing you with the info I found. When working, this clock plays a chime melody on 4 steel rods. Late in their Sonora production, Seth Thomas changed over from bells to rods to compete with less expensive imports. This clock still has the sturdy separate chime movement Model No. 119 manufactured by Mayland. This clock has winding at 3 o’clock. When I found this clock, I opened the back and discovered a bubble wrapped bag with a bunch of bits and pieces that the former owner clearly wanted to keep with the clock. I’ve identified some of those pieces as the pendulum and the key. Sections of broken spring from the time keeping mechanism. I don’t know if there is anything else wrong with the innards other than that. As for the case, it is mahogany wood with satinwood inlay. The finish has extensive alligatoring, but there are only a few very shallow surface scratches. If you find your joy in rescuing and restoring antique clocks, I hope you’ve just found your next Labor of Love in this piece. This is a weighty piece of history! That way, you can select the carrier that is cheapest or fastest for you, depending on your priorities. Please examine the photos and description carefully, and ask questions if you are unsure.

Operating condition – I have many clocks to test and limited time to do so – Tested – I have ran this clock for a full day with no issues running or striking. With all my clocks, if you plan on running this clock consistently i would recommend having the movement cleaned to better guarantee long term optimal operation (SEE VIDEO).
