Nice nautical set in good working condition. Note, clock back is missing the small screws that hold it on if removed from board. The clock winds up and runs and the clock chimes on the hour and half hour however the strikes don’t match the hands… The brass portions are just raw brass with no protective coating… Likewise there is cleaning polish or residue it and around the bezel and back the outside diameter of the bezel not including the wheel handles is 5 inches… The glass 4 inches… Please see photos as part of the description. Therefore, I will state with considerable certainty as this duo does seem rather elusive that this set has become very collectable and a tad rare! The name of this set is; “SHIPMATES” and there is a sticker on the bottom of the base which verifies the fact. This Seth Thomas clock and Barometer set would be dated somewhere around 1938 or sometime shortly thereafter. Production of the No. 44 Wheel Bezel Clock would date back to 1928 and the Herald No. 1 Barometer at the earliest around 1938. This set has been in my possession for the last 20 plus years. 115 fine levered movement that features a compensated balance wheel and a Breguet hairspring escapement. It has a silvered 4.5 inch metal dial that is set in a polished heavy cast brass case with a screw on bezel and hinged door. It has an overall diameter of 8.5 inches. I ran the clock through one full winding at that time to make sure it performed as it should. The Stormoguide barometer is a precision instrument that was manufactured domestically by Taylor Industries. It allows for scientific forecasting of the weather. It has an automatic signal on the lower portion of the dial which indicates at a glance whether the atmospheric pressure is rising or falling. Figures and graduations in its center permit direct reading of barometric pressure in inches of mercury. It has a silvered 4.5 inch metal dial and like its clock counterpart is set in a polished heavy cast brass case with a screw type bezel and and hinged door. Its overall diameter matches that of the clock, 8.5 inches. Tran Duy Ly’s book, SETH THOMAS CLOCKS & MOVEMENTS, Third Edition – Volume 2, page 782 below the picture of the No. 1 Herald Barometer it states; Matches No. Clock and Baromoter are at rest on their own solid mahogany plinths which set atop a base of solid Mahogany! The set has not been stored away but always displayed in our home. The set will not come dusty, tarnished and reeking of neglect! It will be clean, with a lustrous shine and ready for your enjoyment and display! The picture of the set that is in black and white came from a 1938 Seth Thomas sales brochure. Size of the clock can be seen in the ad as well. Lease forgive my rambling but if one was to invest in this rare beauty, I think one would want to know as much of the narrative that lends itself to this set as possible!

These are in excellent condition, with all functions operating perfectly. This clock and barometer have a rich history, having originally been on my grandfather’s sloop from 1929 to 1980, and then on my father’s Endeavour 36 from 1980 to 2000. They are currently displayed on a handmade mahogany stand built by my father, which is included.

Has good condition, only barometer glass has small light crack we showed on last two photos and door brass clock has very small dent we showed on last photo. The barometer has 4 silver dial with arabic numerals. Clock and barometer size. Deep 3.5 inches. Widest point 19 inches. It is NOT a house strike clock. The code is based on the crew’s typical workday routine while the vessel is underway. Therefore, the day is divided into six four-hour periods that are each called a watch. Similarly, the crew is broken up into three divisions. We do our best to research and describe the items accurately, but we are not experts on all of the items we sell. Clock and bell and barometer keeping accurate time there is very minimal tarnish on the brass.

Cosmetically the set is very good with no noticeable issues. There is a dedication plate that appears to be glued to the cradle. The blame is dated 1966 and refers to a Baltimore harbor master. Mechanically, the clock was wound and ticked. When the hands were cycled it chimed. It wasn’t tested for accuracy or run duration. It a nice clock set in great shape nand it’s priced to sell so don’t miss it.
