FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS ADAMANTINE CLOCK, DANA NO. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. 3 model is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 442, item 1442, and gives a date of manufacture of 1913. This date is also stenciled on the bottom of the clock, a picture is provided of this. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. I consider the condition of the clock to be extremely good, the finish has the usual flaws and the original instruction label is still attached to the back door. I ask you to please examine the 12 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 8.375 inches wide, 11 inches high and 5.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and the original winding key. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE. Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York developed and patented this early form of plastic in 1880, and Seth Thomas soon after acquired the rights to the material. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 41 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. The clock is somewhat rare, I cannot find the clock in any of my books. I believe that the model is Bison, based on examining the name written on the bottom of the clock under a black light. I will tell you that this is one of the few Adamantine clocks I have seen with four columns on each side of the dial. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. I cannot find this clock in my Seth Thomas book but the date of manufacture is easy to determine. On the bottom of the clock is a date code of May of 1915. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a nickel-plated bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. The finish is in nice shape with the normal wear and tear that you would expect for an item that is over 100 years old. The clock has two celluloid columns on each side with a cherub figure in the center. I ask you to please examine the 15 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 38 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS BLACK ADAMANTINE MANTEL CLOCK. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock is somewhat rare, I cannot find the clock in any of my books. I can tell by certain markings on the movement that it was made between 1901 and. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. The finish is in exceptional condition as are the metal trim pieces and the dial. I ask you to please examine the 12 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 14.25 inches wide, 10.75 inches high and 6.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and a proper fitting winding key. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE. Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York developed and patented this early form of plastic in 1880, and Seth Thomas soon after acquired the rights to the material. Celluloid was the first thermoplastic and was made by combining nitrocellulose with camphor. It can take on many colors with the addition of dyes and other agents. Molding and shaping are easily accomplished, so it could imitate more expensive materials such as stone or ivory. Many people use the word incorrectly, only Seth Thomas had the right to use this material on their clock cases. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward. From my personal collection, a Beautiful fully restored Rare Antique Seth Thomas Empire 10 Crystal Regulator Clock, Circa 1904. Every Aspect of this clock has been considered in its restoration. You will find none nicer in your hunt for a Empire 10. This clock is all original and in excellent shape for being 117 years old! This is truly a special clock- This clock has been fully restored, and no detail has been missed. Cabinet is a cast Bronze with fine detail, with Brass Pillars, and original glass panels drawing attention to this beautiful clock. The case is in perfect condition, antiqued and patinaed evenly for a beautifully displaying clock. All glass panels appear original, showing original beveled leaded glass. One side note that I like to mention to be transparent is the front door glass has a small chip in the lower right corner, about 3/16 sized. Other than this small flaw, the clock is in perfect condition. Original Seth Thomas steel cut blued spade hands on an excellent Seth Thomas Fancy heat fired porcelain dial with flower decorations. The dial is in excellent flawless condition. Movement has been completely overhauled, restored pand timed on a timing computer, and is a Round Seth Thomas #5 count wheel, 8 day time and strike movement, and includes the original Seth Thomas Faux Mercury Pendulum. The movement plates were not polished in the restoration as I wanted them to carry the same patina that the cabinet has. Strikes on the half hour once on a French cathedral gong, and strike counts at the hour. Chine hammer leather has been replaced gor a rich sound. I truly hate to part with this Rare clock, but I just have far to many- so the next owner get to enjoy this fine piece. 8.5″(W) X 7″(D) X 15 (H). All of my clocks are antiques and many are over 100 years old. Though each clock has gone thru a major restoration, there will be small flaws and blemishes consistent with a clock over 100 years old. Check the pictures as they say much more than words. I don’t usually list every flaw or blemish as the pictures show a much better description than can be listed. What you see in the picture is what you get, nothing more. Please use care when unpacking an antique clock. THIS INCLUDES PROPER LEVELING AT HOME AND SOME FINE ADJUSTMENT TO THE REGULATION.
